Money and the economy: vocabulary drill

Sixteen questions on the words from the money and the economy guide: recall the Russian word, recognise it by ear, use it in a sentence with the right ending, and say what it means. Each new round reshuffles the words and the wrong options, and every answer you miss is saved on this device in a review list. Every answer plays aloud, and every sentence comes with a word-by-word gloss.

Three ways of knowing a word: producing it, hearing it, and fitting it into a sentence.

1. Recall: which word means…?

Read the English, pick the Russian word. You hear the correct word after you choose.

“money”
“account; bill”
“loan”
“salary”

2. Hear: what does it mean?

Press play and listen without reading. The Russian word appears only once you have answered.

3. Use: complete the sentence

All three options are the same word; only the ending changes. Pick the form the sentence needs. The note explains which case (the ending that shows a word’s role) it takes and why.

Я заплачу́ _____ обе́д. I’ll pay for lunch.
Мы ко́пим на _____ We’re saving up for a car.
Це́ны вы́росли _____ де́сять проце́нтов. Prices rose by ten percent.
Я взял в долг у _____ I borrowed money from my brother.

4. Meaning: what does it mean?

Now the other way round: read the Russian word and pick its English meaning.
